The relocation of the National Capital (IKN) from Jakarta to East Kalimantan is a strategic national project that requires support from various stakeholders, including the surrounding cities such as Samarinda and Balikpapan, as well as the neighboring provinces. This study aims to identify the communication methods used by the South Kalimantan Department of Communication and Information (Kominfo) in disseminating information about the IKN development to the local community and to analyze the effectiveness of these methods. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews and document analysis, this research finds that the communication strategies implemented by Kominfo are still insufficiently effective. The community often receives information from other sources that are perceived as more engaging and relevant. Kominfo needs to enhance cooperation with local media, strengthen the involvement of religious and traditional leaders, and adopt a more participatory communication model that is engaging and interactive. These findings indicate the necessity for adjustments in communication strategies to achieve understanding, support, and preparedness among the community in facing the IKN development.
